Incoming Message Prologue

AC 200
Earth

After the wars, the Gundam pilots had all gone their separate ways... more or less. Still... they ended up migrating back together in the end.

One Gundam pilot in particular was woken up by his sometimes roommate, Hilde.

"Duo, you lazybones! Wake up! Get this... Sally is thinking of taking Freecell out of everyone's computers at Headquarters just because one rookie spent all his time playing it." Hilde dropped the memo onto Duo's bed and grinned at him. "I have to head out now. You behave yourself today, all right?" She ran her fingers through her short hair. "Oh! And it was Heero's turn to pick dinner this week, so we're meeting at Yoji's for sushi!"

Duo glared at Hilde. "Sushi? Can't I have chicken and cashews instead? Heero KNOWS I can't stand the thought of eating raw fish!" He shuddered at the idea.

Hilde giggled. "Yeah... whatever. Just remember to be there on time or Wufei will rant at you." With that she kissed him on the nose and left the apartment.

Duo listened as Hilde's steps grew fainter, then grinned as he looked out the window. 'SAFE!' With that thought in mind, he hopped out of bed and ran to his laptop. He clicked on his mail server and waited patiently for the line to connect while rubbing his chilled hands together to warm them. He let out a tiny squeak of delight when he saw he had a message from his favorite Email pen pal, Tinman. He opened the message with a smile.

-------------------------------------------------------

'Dear Phoenix,

It's so strange sometimes that I am able to email you, a perfect stranger, about my problems... but I can't bring myself to burden any of my so-called friends. I don't have anything against them, mind you, but I highly doubt they'd take me as seriously as you do. Correction... they'd analyze what I was saying because I'm not as eloquent around them as I am when writing or chatting with you.

Now onto my problem. I'm all but engaged to a woman that I just can't stand. She's overbearing and she thinks I will just fall at her feet. I don't love her. I don't even know if I could think of her as a friend. She's making all these plans, and I'm powerless to stop her. All my friends say they're happy for me... is something wrong with ME?

Tinman'

Duo frowned. "Hell no, man! Right... like he can hear you, Duo! Get a grip before you start talking to yourself!" He shook his head and started to type.

"Heero... would you pour me a cup of coffee while you're there?" Relena walked in running a brush through her hair. "I have a meeting at noon, and two press conferences. That says nothing of the board I have to meet with regarding Mariemeia's colony."

Heero glowered at the Vice Foreign Minister and poured her a cup of coffee. "Hn!"

Relena smiled as she accepted the cup. "And don't forget that you have to accompany me to the Gala this weekend."

"I do? When did I agree to that?" Heero frowned as Relena pouted at him. 'I SWEAR I'll kill her one of these days.' Then he sighed and nodded. "You'd better go. Lady Une wanted to go over some plans for your press conference this morning."

Relena smiled sweetly as she kissed his cheek. "See you later, Heero."

No sooner had Relena left than Heero went to his laptop and started up his ISP. Once he was connected, his eyes lit up. He had one message from Phoenix.

-------------------------------------------------------

'Tinman,

There is NOTHING wrong with you! Your "friends" must be blind if they can't see how miserable you are. Myadvice is to get out of that relationship before it is too late. If the girl you're all but engaged to cares at all about you, she'll let you break it off and let you find someone who WILL make you happy. I know for a fact... I have friends that sometimes crash here, but I never put up a front of something more than friendship. Plus... they know I'm waiting for the right guy to come along.

Actually... the right guy HAS come along, but he's so totally clueless. It's okay though, because I don't think I'm his type... he insults me every chance he gets. So I'm not about to get my hopes up about him. I'm not telling you what to do with your life... but you did ask for my advice.

Phoenix'

Heero actually let out a dry chuckle then glanced at the time. 'Better move or Duo will snag all the donuts.'
