Partings and Reunion Part 1
Be a Man

The world is quiet - like there's no one around - But I feel you beside me

Heero felt the chilling winds of the night cut into his face. He gingerly sat down on the grassy hill, then proceeded to lie down. Probing his head onto his hands, he stared into the starry sky. The sky was like a blanket that covered up everything. However, the stars managed to shine through the darkness. They were absolutely gorgeous.

Star gazing never was a hobby of Heero's. However, getting close to a certain braided baka soon helped him obtain it. Especially when he wasn't around. The surroundings were quiet, not even the mating calls of crickets could be heard. Not a single soul was in sight. It was as though no one was around at all. Like he was alone.

As though to prove him otherwise, the stars shone even brighter. They faintly resembled his eyes, always twinkling with life. The boy who had been in Heero's dreams for as long as he could remember. Duo Maxwell.

At this thought, Heero's lips twitched a little in a gentle smile. How could he be alone? He never was, at least after he had met that braided friend of his. He had always been there for Heero. Always. Now was not an exception.

I know the secrets - you keep locked away inside
Don't understand why you're fighting - no

Heero sighed. It had been... god knows how long since they've last met. And he had missed him. Staring into the wilderness, Heero could see Duo's face. The way he flashes his smiles; the way he pouted... He was just pure beautiful. No, 'beautiful' couldn't' do him justice. He was definitely more than sheer 'beautiful'. He was seraphic.

As much as he laughed, Heero knew. It wasn't all true. Sometimes, if you just paid a little attention to him, pain would flash by his heart-shaped face. It made Heero's heart wrench every time.

And then, Duo had spilled out everything that night when he had been drunk. His wandering life in the streets when everyone shunned him, as though he were a plague. Then his timely meeting with Solo, another street kid like himself. His first friend ever, who yielded to death eventually. And lastly, the Maxwell church massacre that changed his life forever.

From all these, Heero understood. Duo's sometimes fake laughter were just his own way of dealing with his pain. He had his own share of pain that lay beneath his jester mask that few even know it exists. Or even no one... but him.

Heero sighed again. He knew that Duo was fighting for revenge, but he couldn't understand why. Why can't he just stop risking his life and limb? Couldn't he trust him enough to let him fight instead? Heero was most willing to do so, if it could save Duo from pain and injuries that may prove fatal.

She must be special - this new girl by your side
I seek for answers - when I look into your eyes

Heero recalled their last meeting, where Duo had introduced a new friend to him. Her name was Hirde, wasn't it? Heero's heart had twisted when he saw how intimate they were with each other. Who was she to Duo, anyway? He looked at Duo a little pleadingly, seeking for some answers that would ease his pounding heart.

And it hurts like hell - but I will be strong

However, he felt that he had fallen into the deepest chasm there was when he saw them hugging happily. It was as though the two belonged together, if they hadn't. It hurt. More than any injury he had sustained from fighting. But Heero knew that he couldn't afford to be weak in the midst of the war.

For once in your life - be a man - just tell me the words - 'cause I know that you can
Don't leave me with scars - that no one can heal - for once in your life - be a man

He was tired. Tired of all these doubts that raced through his mind everyday. Tired of the American pilot's shadows in his mind in his every waking moment, and haunting his nights. Tired of... practically everything. He felt as though he was tied to Duo by a string which stirred his feelings. He wanted so much to cut it, to release himself from all those emotions he wasn't supposed to feel. But every time, those brilliant violet orbs would stop him.

'Why don't you just tell me your feelings? It's just a few words! Either 'I love you too" or 'I don't feel anything for you'. Just say them out. I...I'm already hurt. What does it matter to get a few scars? As long as you tell me, I'll know what to do. If you don't... I can't take much anymore. Set me free, please... So tired...' Heero mused.

You made me love you - love you right from the start
You're controlling my heart Babe

'You were the one who made me fall in love, with your laughter, your smiles, and that incredibly long braid of yours. But now, you're holding my heart captive. I feel like I can't breathe anymore.'

Don't pack your bags yet - give me time to say goodbye
just don't leave me wounded - no

Heero recalled their parting around a month or two ago. 'Parting? I didn't even see that baka.' He reminded himself. Duo had merely left a note on his desk and just left Heero behind, who had been asleep. He had important personal problems to settle, he says. He didn't even say goodbye. Heero felt so lonely after he read the note, as though he wasn't already. Somehow, he had a sneaking suspicion that Duo was meeting with Hirde.

I just hope you will regret the things you do
Come back to me - 'cause our love is the real thing

Suddenly, a beam of white light flashed across the sky. A shooting star. Although he had never believed in such unscientific rumour, anything was worth a shot now. Silently, Heero closed his eyes and made a wish. 'I wish... that Duo and that Hirde would have a heated exchange. Then Duo will regret ever meeting with her. Finally, I sincerely hope that Duo will come back to me.' Three wishes for one shooting star. A little greedy, but it'll have to do.

And it hurts like hell - but I will be strong

Somehow, thinking of the two together again made uneasy again. He clenched his chest where his heart is. He felt the pain there. And it hurt.

For once in your life - be a man - just tell me the words - 'cause I know that you can
Don't leave me with scars - that no one can heal - for once in your life - be a man

Finally, the alluring dreams were beckoning him. As he felt his eyelids go shut in oblivion, he whispered, "Duo... tell me your feelings..."
