Battlestar Andromeda Part 11

King's Ballroom
Palace of Aloria
That Evening

Zechs stood next to Prince Tor-il, Wufei standing behind and to the left of him. He had been adamant that Wufei join him this evening and had not taking any argument over his decision. After sending the servants scurrying to find formal wear for him, he was blown away when Wufei stepped back into the room ready for the ball. Zechs had insisted on formal Chinese wear for Wufei and the tears that filled his beautiful dark eyes and fell slowly down his face was worth the trouble he had gone through. As Zechs walked down the halls to the ballroom he was hard pressed to force Wufei to walk beside him but he knew that it was hard enough for Wufei to just go to the ball and he did not want to take him out of his comfort zone too much. He did draw the line to Wufei falling to his knees every time that Zechs stopped to talk to anyone.

"Wufei looks very handsome tonight Zechs." said Tor-il. "I am so glad that you brought him to the ball."

"Since this is his last night here I wanted him to enjoy the evening." Zechs said looking at Wufei out of the corner of his eye. Zechs had tried several times since the ball had started to get Wufei to talk but to no avail. He was determined to be the perfect slave for Zechs, something that did not sit well with the taller man. He really wanted to get to know Wufei better, especially after all that he had learned about the young man, but found him to be extremely stubborn in that aspect. He looked out over the dance floor again and watched as Ambassador Yuy stalked back into the ballroom. He saw the cold hard look on the Ambassador's face and was thankful that the look was not meant for him. He shivered as a chill went down his spine, whoever the look was for he felt sorry for the person.

Heero felt the anger build in him as he stalked back into the ballroom. His mind was in turmoil, he didn't know what to believe anymore. He had demanded answers, but the one that he got was not what he expected. If anything he had even more questions and looking over he spotted Relena talking to the wife of an Alorian noble. He knew that he should wait until they were back on the Andromeda before demanding answers but while his mind was trying to be rational his heart demanded he finish this tonight. His heart won, he would find out what happened three years ago and he would find out tonight.

Relena looked up as he came to her side. For a moment she felt her heart stutter at the closed expression on his face. Worried that something had happened to the treaty talks she turned to him and asked uncertainly, "Is something wrong Heero?" She gasped slightly at the hard grip as his hand grabbed her elbow.

"If you will excuse us, I need to speak to my assistant for a moment." Heero said with a calm quiet voice that belied the emotions that he was truly feeling. Not waiting for an answer he propelled Relena from the room and down the hall at a quick pace.

"Heero?" Relena asked her voice timid, "What is wrong? Please you are scaring me."

Heero ignored her as he searched for an empty room. He walked past several rooms until he found one with the door open. Pulling her with him he looked inside and saw that it was the palace library and that it was empty.

"Heero?" Relena tried again.

Heero pulled Relena into the room and shut the door. As he turned towards her his mind went back to the scene out in the garden. He could still see the tears streaming down Duo's face and though he knew that he should try to calm down and to think rationally he found that he couldn't. The anger was just too great.

Relena watched him for a moment and then said, "Heero, will you tell me why you had to drag me from the ball like that? I mean, that was extremely embarrassing. I am sure that all of the King's guests are now talking about us..."

"Shut up!" Heero snarled at her.

"Really Heero! What is with you this evening? You have never acted this way before."

"Relena, I have never hit a woman but if you don't shut up I may just change that!" Heero said harshly.

Relena stared at Heero with wide eyes, fear evident on her face. Heero had never spoken to her like that before and she was not sure how to handle it. She wondered what happened after they went their separate ways at the ball. She didn't have to wait long to find out.

"I know what you did three years ago Relena." Heero said his voice cold.

"What do you mean?" she asked nervously.

"Three years ago I gave you the keys to my apartment. You were supposed to drop off the roses and the gift while I was at the hospital with Dr. J."

"That's what I did Heero. I took them to your apartment and then I left." she said.

"That's a lie Relena and we both know it." Heero stated. "You took a man who looked like me and had sex in my bed! You knew that I was going to be at the hospital for hours and used that to your advantage!"

"I... I don't know what you are talking about." Relena said, looking around as though to escape from Heero's words.

"You know what I am talking about Relena. I just want to know one thing? Why? Why would you do that to me? We have known each other all our lives, why would you ruin my life like that?"

"Heero, I am telling you the truth! You must believe me!"

"No Relena, I know what the truth is. Duo told me everything. He came home that night and found you in our bed having sex with someone he thought was me."

Relena gave a shaky little laugh, "And you believed him? That street rat?! How could you believe someone like him over me?"

"Don't you dare say anything against him!" Heero roared. "You don't know anything about him! Duo is a kind wonderful man, one who has integrity and honor, one who does not believe in lying! So keep your poisonous thoughts to yourself because he is twice the person you are!"

"He's a nobody!" Relena shrieked, "I am from one of the elite families and he is nothing but a street rat, raised in an orphanage! He doesn't even know who his parents are! You were mine! You were supposed to marry me not some gutter snipe! Once your father stepped down as Head of the World Council you would have taken over and we could have ruled everything! Our future would have been secured; instead you married that perverted thing and threw your whole life away! No one on the Council respects you now! They all laugh at you behind your back!"

Heero let out a loud roar, taking a step towards her. "I never wanted to take over my father's place on the Council! I was happy in the position that I had! I never gave you any indication that I would marry you at all! Any delusions that you had about me marrying you were all in your head! I wouldn't marry you if you were the last person on earth! You are nothing but a self-centred bitch Relena!"

"A bitch! I was the only one there for you! I stood behind you and help make you what you are today! If not for me you would be nothing!"

Heero took a deep breath, knowing that if he didn't he would gladly strangle her. "I don't even know who you are anymore Relena." He watched as tears fell from her face. "Before Duo came into my life I was miserable. He was the only person that gave my life meaning. When he agreed to marry me I was the happiest man on earth. He supported me, stood behind any decisions that I made and all he asked for in return was my love which I gave him with all my heart."

Heero backed away from Relena, turning towards the door to leave. He stopped when he felt her hand grab his arm. He looked down at the appendage with pure disgust, the feel of her hand making his skin crawl. Looking back up at her he said coldly, "Take your hand from my arm Relena. I don't want you to touch me ever again."

"Please Heero, don't be like this." Relena pleaded with a crazy look in her eyes. "I know that he was the one who forced himself on you. Everyone that was at that graduation ceremony said so. He was the one who made you do all those perverted things, but he is gone now. He divorced you. He wants nothing to do with you." She stepped forward and tried to wrap her arms around him. "I know that you love me. We can make this work; there is nothing to stop us from being happy. We can be married now and when this mission is done you can become a member of the council. I know it."

Heero felt his stomach turn at her words. He pushed her back with all his strength, not caring when she landed on the floor in a heap. Shaking his head he said, "I don't ever want you near me again. If it was not for the fact that I can't in all good conscience leave you behind I wouldn't even allow you back on the Andromeda. However, given the fact that you father is good friends with mine, I cannot leave you here. So on that note, you will be allowed back on ship, however, you are no longer my assistant, from here on out you are nothing but a passenger on board. But mark my words Relena, stay away from me and stay away from Duo."

Heero turned once more and walked towards the door. He stopped with his hand on the handle and turned back to her. "And for your information, I am still married to Duo. It's true that he signed the divorce papers but I didn't. I still love him and hopefully he still loves me. I pray that we can get past this and maybe build the life together that we dreamed about five years ago." Heero then turned the handle and walked out the door closing it behind him with a cold finality.

To Heero the night was over, he only hoped that tomorrow he would be able to set things right.
