Silence Part 17

Wufei

I looked at the crowd in the hallway. Mei Ling, Rowan and Marissa backed me up.

"Heero Yuy is conscious, lucid and alive. He's leaving with us. Either stand aside or we'll break you like the rotten wood you are." I surveyed the doctors, lawyer and the director. No one would try to stop us physically. They began to fall back, muttering. At the intersection, the doctors went one way and the lawyer and director went the other. Very quickly.

I popped my phone and dialed Detective Ohara. When he answered, I gave him a brief description of the past few minutes. He thanked me politely and said he'd take care of it.

Then I called Maggie Liu. "Heero has regained consciousness," I stated and held the phone away from my head as she screamed. If she were at the library, she would probably be banned. My companions smiled and giggled. Actually, I was also smiling, though I hadn't realised it until then. "Please take care of the legal necessities."

"Oh! Oh, Wufei! Oh! I'm sorry! Mr. Chang! Absolutely! I'll get onto it instantly! Oh, oh! Tell Mr. Maxwell I'm so glad!" She squealed again, as the connection was broken.

Mei Ling grinned at the ceiling. "She seeing anyone?" she asked casually.

"Ask her. I am not a social secretary for legal idealists." I pretended not to notice that she stuck her tongue out at me.

I dialed again.

"Ming."

"Heero Yuy has regained consciousness. Please meet us at the home."

"Excellent news, Mr. Chang. Twenty minutes."

Next, I called Sally Po. She began to cry when I told her.

"Thank god, thank God," she whispered. "What can I do, Wufei?"

"Pass the word, please."

"I will; oh, I most definitely will! Wufei..."

"Yes, Sally?"

"What about Quatre and Trowa?"

"I'll do that."

"Okay. Oh, I'm so happy for them! Please give Duo and Heero each a hug and a kiss from me."

"I will. Thank you, Sally."

I closed the phone and leaned against the wall for a minute. My ribs ached from the blows I took in the fight, but I refused to dwell on that. Rowan slid over, hooked an arm around my shoulders, and kissed my cheek lightly.

"You're a hell of a guy, Wufei," he said softly. "One HELL of a guy."

I closed my eyes. We're good friends, Rowan and I, though I suspect he's still in love with me. I didn't know how to reply to his declaration. I nodded slightly.

My next call was to Michael. I had to wait a moment while his receptionist put me through.

"Yes, Wufei?"

"Heero's regained consciousness."

An audible intake of breath. "My lord! When?"

"Five minutes, maybe ten. Duo is with him."

"No kidding!" he laughed. "How? I mean, this was totally unexpected. Well, by me, at least."

"I don't know, Michael. We were going to sneak him out --"

"You were going to kidnap Heero Yuy?!" He leaned back in his chair and propped his feet on his desk. "Wufei, you've got some brass balls!"

I raised one eyebrow. "Um... Thank you. I think. Will you come?"

"Absolutely! Ten minutes. How's Duo?"

"Drowning in ecstasy, as you might imagine."

"Ha! Good for him! Good for Heero! Good for all of you!" he laughed.

Yes... Good for me...

I stepped into the room. Duo lay on the bed next to Heero, kissing and petting him gently. Heero had a firm grip on his arm, stroking his glossy hair and murmuring in his ear. Duo giggled and blushed.

I was grinning in spite of the pain in my heart. Yes, this was right and proper. Whatever dreams I may hide, this is reality and this is the way it must be, the way it SHOULD be. I would rather end my life than come between these two lovers.

Duo sat up and eased his arms under Heero's head and shoulders to bring him to a sitting position. He breathed deeply and flexed his shoulders, grinning at his angel. I knew then that Heero would be back to normal (for him) a lot sooner than anyone might expect. He raised one arm, then the other, and Duo was beside himself with glee. He wrapped his arms around Heero and held him close.

Heero looked over his shoulder to meet my eyes. He grinned and nodded and mouthed silently, "Thanks, Wufei; I love you and I owe you."

I shrugged and shook my head. I had one more call to make.

Marissa was chattering to Mei Ling. She must have been incredibly nervous, because she had never chattered before.

"Watch the door, Mei. Rowan, keep an eye on the window." They nodded and Rowan slipped inside the room. I walked down the corridor; I needed privacy for this call.

I dialed a number I hadn't used in months and got a voice mailbox. I pushed my temper aside with difficulty and spoke briskly.

"Good afternoon Quatre; Trowa. I wish to inform you that at approximately 1117 hours, L2 time, Heero Yuy regained full consciousness. He will be returning home with his husband and his son immediately. No communication is requested." I paused for a moment, then continued very softly. "You underhanded, unfaithful, duplicitous, malevolent, egg-sucking sons of maggots. Fuck you both."

Mission, such as it was, accomplished. And I felt both silly and triumphant. Once Heero found out what they'd done, I wouldn't give a single yen for their lives.

Michael appeared while I was contemplating the various slow, tortuous methods of disposing of traitors. He gave my shoulders a squeeze and raised an eyebrow when I winced.

"Itai," I muttered. "The guards got me a few times."

He dived into his bag and pulled out a sample package. "Take one now; they're mild, but they'll take the edge off. Now, show me this miracle!"

Duo had maneuvered himself into a position behind Heero so that Heero could lean against him and he could keep his arms about him.

"Mikey!" he cried. "Look! My life is back!" giggled Duo.

"I see! Congratulations to you both! Mind if I bother you for a few minutes? I want to take some readings. I think Sally and I have to write a paper on this. Heero, you look great for a guy who's been asleep for 31 months."

"That long?" Heero whispered. "Then it's about time, isn't it?" he smiled.

"Absolutely!" laughed Michael.

Duo

I don't remember a bit of the last minutes in that hospital room or the trip home. (Home! My Wingman is BACK with ME!!! We are a FAMILY again!) I was just too fuckin' happy to have my guy back.

I do remember seeing Heero's hand on my braid, clutching it like it was a rope thrown to a drowning man. Maybe that's how he saw it. I think I screamed. I heard someone screaming; it kinda sounded like me. I remember kissing him for what seemed like forever (maybe it was, I don't know). I remember Heero saying that he loved me. He called me Shinigami and said he wanted to go home and fuck me. No shit! That wasn't my first thought, but it was sure number two or three!

Yeah, yeah, I know it wasn't gonna happen the moment we got in the door; Heero's still too weak for that, but it'll be soon! And there's no damn reason I can't make love to him. You better believe that I DO, whenever I can! Oh, God... In our bed... OUR bed! Anytime we want! Well, not ANY time. Heero has physical therapy twice a day and Ming and Angelique are in and about looking after us (I didn't know that they were guerrillas with Sally during the war until Angelique mentioned it. Trust that Wufei to hire housekeepers/bodyguards for us!) and of course, Solo can hardly be pried away.

I let him stay home from school for a few days. Hey, he hasn't had his father in two and a half years; screw school! God, he's still so excited! He's almost incoherent, trying to get all the stories out at once. Man, can that kid TALK!

Oh! Sweetums has accepted Heero. I know he's a lizard, but I just wasn't sure how he'd react to a stranger in my bed. We were all kinda cautious, but I knew it was okay when I discovered Sweetums "tasting" Heero while he napped. He only does that to people he likes. Around here, we're all used to lizard spit.

For the most part, I'm happy as a slut in a vibrator store. The only weird thing is that Wufei has only visited twice. I had to almost twist his arm to get him to come to dinner. I don't know what's wrong; he was so happy when Heero woke up, and he was my best support during the last months. I kinda feel like I've said or done something to upset him, but he won't say what. I really miss him... He was so patient with me and so good to Solo when I was out of it. He never lost faith in us and he never lost his temper with me or made me feel bad... I love Wufei and I miss him. Even Heero thinks it's odd that he isn't around. I've got to corner him and find out what's going on! This is such a great time for me and it wouldn't have happened if not for Wufei; I want my best friend to be here...

Heero

Ten years ago, I would never have guessed that seeing a satin-dressed bed could make me so DAMN happy. Ten years ago, I hadn't met my sexy, sensuous Death.

It feels very odd to be carried up the stairs. I've carried Duo often, but this is the first time he's carried me. Michael says I should take it easy for a while. I will, for a while, but no longer than necessary. Annoying as it is, I have resigned myself to waiting for my chance to fuck my love. I seem to be a bit out of condition in that area.

My momentary dysfunction hasn't stopped my darling, though, thank the gods and Godes. I give thanks every day to any and all deities that come to mind; someone or something answered my pleas and his and I am forever grateful for their kindness. My delightful little daemon is perfectly willing to tease me to the point of meltdown and to pleasure himself for MY pleasure. Unconventional as he is, my angel does take direction quite willingly. And he's damn good at it.

We have had visitors aplenty in the past few days. Most of them leave cards or gifts, but a few are admitted to our presence. Sally and Michael, of course, are welcome at any time, Duo brought Marissa in to meet me formally, and she is a delightful woman. Hilde and her husband Roxy stopped by briefly. Hilde gave me a hard hug and whispered for me to PLEASE keep Duo home for a while longer, as he would drive her crazy if he came back too soon. I promised to try. Rowan and Mei Ling have brought flowers and chocolates, but they always demure any personal visits saying that they don't wish to intrude so soon. Very gracious of them, and I have let them know how much I appreciate their help in my escape.

I do not consider Wufei a visitor; he has become an integral part of our family, but he doesn't come as often as I had expected and I fear it's because of his feelings for Duo. I want to talk to him, but he's avoiding any intimacy. Duo misses him and doesn't understand why he's avoiding us. He can't hide from me forever, though, and we do need to talk.

I have managed to wrestle a laptop from my darling, and was surprised to find a message from QRW. I waited two days to open it, as I wanted to be absolutely sure that I even cared to know what it said. I said nothing to Duo; he is happy again, and I want him to stay that way.

The message was brief. It said only, "Praise Allah and all the gods and Godes! We are so happy for you both."

I had a momentary burst of pure fury and replied as briefly, "Don't concern yourselves."

Assholes...

It's time for my therapy; it'll dissipate my anger.
