The doorbell rang. Duo looked up from his book, annoyed. Who the hell would be coming to visit this late at night? Not that he had all that many people who would bother to visit him...

The doorbell rang again. Persistent bastard, whoever it was. Duo pushed himself up from the sofa and headed for the door. More than likely it was one of the building's teens doorbell ditching him. Maybe once he opened the door they'd move on to the next apartment.

The doorbell rang again- longer and louder as if the person was leaning on the bell. Now that was just plain annoying. Duo undid his lock and flung the door open intending to give someone a piece of his mind.

The words died on his tongue when he realized who was standing there. Damn it, when would he learn to use the peephole?

"So," Heero said with a faint smile. "Here you are."

"How did you find me?" Duo's hand tightened on the doorknob. What was he doing here?

"Does it matter?" Heero lifted an eyebrow. "Going to invite me in?"

"What if I don't?"

"Then I just wait out here in the hallway for you. You'll have to come out sometime."

Duo snarled. "Still a stubborn bastard I see."

Heero smiled, showing his canines. "Takes one to know one."

"Fine," Duo waved a hand. "You're invited." Heero stepped inside and Duo closed the door behind him. "Why are you here?"

"You know why I'm here." Heero turned and Duo found himself pinned against the door. "You ran away from me. I came to get you back."

Duo shoved at Heero's shoulder and growled in annoyance when the other didn't move. "Get off!"

Heero frowned. "What happened?"

Duo pushed at him again. "Nothing. Get off me!"

"Duo-" Heero leaned into him. "You should've been able to toss me across the room- let alone scent me before you answered the door. What happened?"

"Nothing happened. Maybe you're remembering things wrong. It's been a long time."

"I know it," Heero put his lips on the pulse in Duo's neck and Duo flinched away.

"Don't!"

Heero stepped back. "What is going on?"

"Nothing," Duo looked at the floor. "You didn't really think I'd be happy to see you, did you?"

"Actually I wasn't sure what to think." Heero shook his head. "You seemed happy- content with me- and then one day you vanished."

"Maybe I wasn't as happy as you thought."

Heero's eyes narrowed. "Or maybe something else happened."

Duo flinched.

"You still won't tell me?"

"Nothing to tell." Duo retorted.

"Really? So when I tell you that I caught her- and she confessed what she did to you before I killed her- you don't have anything to say to me?"

Duo looked up in shock. "She's... dead?"

"Very much so."

"But..." He slid his hand across his chest, eyes wide. His mouth opened as if he was going to say something and then closed again.

Heero hissed and reached out, pushing Duo back against the wall and yanking his shirt up, exposing the intricately detailed design on Duo's chest. "I know it's still there. We have to break it, that's all."

"That's all?!" Duo laughed hysterically. "That's all? I tried for years! I couldn't..."

Heero leaned over and rubbed his cheek against Duo's. "Shhh...I know. I know you did."

Duo leaned his head against Heero's shoulder. "I'm sorry..."

"It's all right." Heero reached into his pocket and pulled out a small vial. "We can break it- with her blood."

Duo lifted his head up, his expression hopeful. "Really?"

"I think so. Is it worth a try?"

Duo lifted his shirt up, exposing the seal. Heero smeared the blood across Duo's chest, obscuring the design. For a moment nothing happened- and then the design began to fade. Duo sagged against the wall, his breath coming in rapid pants.

"Duo?"

"It... hurts!" Duo hunched over and Heero grabbed his shoulders.

"Don't fight it. Let it go."

Duo's fingers dug into Heero's arms as he twisted in agony. "I'm sorry," he gasped. "Sorry I left... but she... she said..."

"I know," Heero pulled Duo into his arms, cuddled him close. "I know. That's why this hurts so much- the poison she hid in your blood is leaving and your own strength is returning."

Duo laughed breathlessly. "Too bad- I was actually enjoying being able to look at the moon..."

"I'm sure," Heero's lips brushed Duo's temple. "I'm so sorry for this love. So very sorry. I never thought anyone would sink so low as to involve you... For so long I thought you had left because you wanted to leave me. I'm so very sorry..."

"I didn't want to leave." Duo closed his eyes. "I was so afraid. I knew I couldn't be around you- I knew it wasn't safe...and I couldn't tell you because she bound me so I couldn't even speak of it..."

"It's safe now." Heero put his head against Duo's. "Perfectly safe. I swear it. So will you come home?"

Duo took a deep breath and looked at his chest. The blood and the seal were both gone. "It's really over?"

Heero inspected the area carefully. "Yes. It's all gone. How do you feel?"

Duo sat up and stretched carefully. "Oh..." He blinked and his eyes glowed a little. "That's much better."

Heero got to his feet, pulling Duo up after him. "Feeling like your old self?"

Duo smiled a sharp-looking smile. "Very much so." He blinked again and leaned back against the wall, tilting his head back. "I've been a bad host- can I offer you a drink?"

Heero smiled as he stepped into Duo's embrace, let his lips touch the place where neck met shoulder. "I wouldn't say no to a nightcap..."
