Pass the Soap
The water had just reached the perfect temperature and I had just stepped into the shower when I heard the doorbell. I made a face and decided to ignore it. I wasn't expecting a package, we didn't have a girl scout in the complex and the only person I would want to see who would just drop by-
"Heero! You home?"
Had his own key.
"Shower!" I called back, knowing that Duo would make himself at home on my sofa. I picked up the shampoo bottle and decided to hurry.
"There you are!"
I yelped and turned. On the other side of the frosted glass I could just make out Duo's shape.
"I said I was in the shower, I'll be right out."
"I can't wait- I have great news!"
Sighing, I reminded myself that the shower door was frosted after all- and I didn't really want to get out of the shower in front of him...
"What's the news?" I asked as I scrubbed the shampoo into my hair.
"I got the job!"
He got the... yes!
Without thinking I opened the shower door to peer at him. "Really? That's terrific! When do you start?"
He blinked for a moment, then shook himself. I wondered if the steam was getting to him. "Next week."
Shampoo started sliding down my face. I closed the shower door and stuck my head under the spray. "I'm so glad for you!"
"Yep, now you'll have to put up with seeing me every day."
"I think I can handle that," I snorted and picked up the conditioner.
"You sure? I mean- I'm over here all the time as it is- imagine seeing me at work too."
I snorted again as I applied the conditioner. "Wasn't I the one that told you to apply? And I've told you that you're more than welcome to move in with me- your apartment sucks."
"I know it," he sighed. "The water heater broke again, the a/c is not working..."
"All the more reason to move in here." I swapped the conditioner for the soap. "My water heater works perfectly..."
"I can tell," Duo laughed. "It's steaming in here. My shower was artic cold this morning. I just dunked myself and got out again."
"You can take one here."
Duo muttered something that I couldn't quite hear. I opened the door and leaned out again. "What did you say?"
His eyes widened again. "Uh... nothing. Go ahead and finish up."
"You really can take one here- and I'm serious about the moving in too. I have the extra room..."
He covered his eyes and his voice was very soft. "Please Heero- don't tempt me."
What did he mean? Tempt him how?
Oh...
I must've made some kind of noise, because he dropped his hand and started to stutter. "Uh... Heero... I didn't mean... well, I did, but... um... I said it wrong..."
I spoke cautiously- he looked like he was ready to bolt. "Are you sure you didn't mean it?"
"Well, I did..." Duo was always honest. "But uh... I wouldn't do anything. Honest. I know you don't..."
Oh I didn't did I? Right. I opened the shower door a little more. "Join me?"
His eyes widened. "Heero? You... really want me in there? With you?"
I knew what he was really asking. "Would I invite you in if I didn't?"
He considered this. Less than a minute later he was sliding into the shower behind me.
"Pass me the soap."
