Secrets Part 3

For a moment- one very dangerous moment- Heero lost himself in Duo's kiss. His free hand tightened in Duo's hair as the other man opened his lips under Heero's. For a moment it was like it had been all that time ago...

Then he pulled away with a gasp, trying to frown. "Trying to distract me?"

Duo lifted a shoulder in a half shrug. "Can't blame a guy for trying." His mouth curved into a crooked smile. "Besides- you got me off L2, are taking me to Earth and you let me use that decadent piece of machinery that you call a shower- I figured I owed you."

Heero flinched as if Duo had struck him. "More like I owe you," he said softly as Duo's eyes widened in surprise. "I never should've started... that. It was wrong of me..." He started to slide away, only to be caught by Duo's still firm grip on his wrist.

"What are you talking about? Wrong?? But I agreed to-"

"Only because you had to. I took advantage of your... situation. I forced-"

"Forced?!" Duo's grip tightened. "Heero, did you miss the part where I agreed? Did you miss the other situations where I took shameless advantage of our little deal?"

"We were supposed to be working together- helping the colonies. I shouldn't have put a price on my assistance- you had the right to demand my help and get it- without paying anything!" Heero pulled his wrist free. "I know you put a good spin on it after that first time, but-"

A loud buzzing interrupted him.

"What's that?"

"My watchdog." Heero ran for the control panel and pulled up the external screens. "Damn it!"

"What is it?"

"Patrol. Can't make out the markings- too far away. They'll be in hailing range in two minutes."

"Damn it." Duo closed his eyes. "You tell them I snuck on board- hijacked your ship-"

"Hell no." Heero ran back to the bed and scooped Duo up, blankets and all.

"Heero- helping a fugitive is against the law! They will toss your ass in prison- if they are feeling nice! And trust me- they won't be feeling nice!" Duo tried to struggle free, but Heero's arms tightened down on him. Hurrying out into the hallway, Heero carried Duo up to the bridge. Quickly hitting a button on his control panel, he turned just in time for Duo to watch a panel in the floor slide open.

"What's that?"

"Smuggling bin." Heero replied and dropped Duo carefully down inside.

"It won't hold up to a scan!"

"Maybe they won't scan."

"They're going to scan-"

Heero hit the button on the control panel again and the door to the smuggling bin slid closed- cutting Duo off in mid-protest. Heero dropped down into his captain's chair just as his usual proximity alarm went off. Taking a deep calming breath, he waited for the hail.

"Identify yourself."

"Registry 21811, the Hermes, out of L4. Captain Yuy speaking."

"Where are you headed?"

"Earth. Is there a problem?"

His view screen lit up, showing a bored-looking patrol officer. "No problem- at least we hope not. A fugitive was seen trying to leave L2. We tracked him to the shuttle port- but he managed to screw up the recordings. So we're checking every ship that left there in the timeframe that we think he escaped. Do you have any passengers, Captain Yuy?"

"No, it's just me." Heero held his breath, hoping they'd just take his word for it.

"Noted. We will scan your ship however. Just standard procedure- since he may have snuck aboard."

Crap, Heero swore silently, but he managed a pleasant smile for the Patrol officer. Damn it! Was it standard- or did they suspect him?

"Of course."

What else could he say?
