Extra Candy

With a muffled thump a red heart shaped box landed on my desk. Since I had not expected in any way to have to endure a Valentine's present, I'm afraid it's sudden appearance made me jump a little.

I looked up just in time to see Quatre, his arms full of similar boxes, toss one at Heero's desk.

Quatre was not one I expected to find acting like cupid, despite his appearance.

"What the hell?" I asked him. "Does Trowa know you're trying to Valentine other people?"

"Trowa told me to do it," Quatre huffed. "I went shopping with my sisters yesterday and they insisted that I needed to get Trowa a few things. I held them off until we got to the candy store..."

"...Where you apparently snapped." I grinned and he growled.

"Next time they need a man to go with them, I'm telling them to take you."

I couldn't talk for a moment because my entire mouth went dry with fear. "You forget- I'm the one that went Christmas shopping with them two years ago..."

Quatre sniffed. "All the more reason to send you. You've had plenty of time to recover."

"They're your sisters!" I pointed out. It was a point I had used before. It never worked, but I was getting desperate.

"Sharing is good for the soul." Quatre gave me an evil smile. Bastard. "Just take the damn candy, okay? Surely there is someone you'd like to give it to..."

He let his eyes flick over to Heero, who had now stopped typing and was examining the box of candy.

I lifted an eyebrow at him indicating that I now found him totally despicable for not only bringing me Valentine's candy and threatening me with his sisters, but for hinting about something I had told him in strictest confidence. He had promised me that it wouldn't go beyond him or that bottle of Jack Daniels.

"You know I don't." I snapped. "Unless you're trying to woo me into a threesome with you and Trowa?"

He snorted. "Like I'd have enough energy to keep up with the two of you? I don't think so. One is plenty."

"And here he said you had plenty of stamina," I teased and he threw another box of candy at my head.

"For that you get two." He looked at Heero. "I know you don't eat candy, but maybe Lena would like it?"

Heero put the box of candy down and smiled slightly. "I know she does like candy, but unless I have the holiday wrong- it's for a lover right?"

"Or a friend who needs to get rid of candy." I laughed and Quatre shook his head.

"It's to express affection for anyone. Not just a lover."

Heero nodded, accepting the answer. "Still, considering she's going on a first date tonight with a madman, I think it would be prudent not to give her candy."

"Madman?" Quatre questioned before I could. Heero was letting Lena go on a date with a madman? What kind of bribe had that taken?

"The one down the hallway. Your boyfriend's partner."

Since Quatre only had the one boyfriend- that I knew about- that meant that...

"Wufei?" I exclaimed. "He asked Lena out?"

"I hope so," Heero's smile widened. "Otherwise I really misunderstood over half of his conversations this week."

"But Wufei's not a madman." I protested and then paused. "Well- not usually..."

"You haven't talked to him much this week have you?" Heero asked me. "Seriously, there was the whole asking out thing, the where to take her thing, the ohgodsofmyancestorsshesaidyesthing, the what to wear thing... Trust me. Ask Sally, I think she heard most of them too."

Quatre grinned. "Sounds like the man might need some candy. See you two later!"

I turned to Heero once Quatre left. "I think we should stick these in Quatre's mailbox tonight with 'love from Doro' tags on them. What do you say?"

"I'd say that he'd retaliate in a way that would more than likely lead to full scale war. Let's just keep the candy and preserve the peace, okay?" Heero chuckled and turned back to his computer. "Besides, it's not like I've ever gotten a Valentine's gift. Even if it is extra candy, it's nice."

"Yeah, can't say I've had a lot either. Still," I put the boxes in a neat stack on my desk, "it would've been nice to get this from someone who wasn't just a friend."

Heero looked away from his computer, picked up his box of chocolate and put it on my desk. He gave me a mischievous smile. "There you go. I'm your partner and your roommate as well as your friend."

"I suspect you are simply trying to get rid of your candy," I shook my head at him. "Nice try, but you know that's not what I meant. Plus you just gave away your first Valentine's gift." I picked up my two boxes and placed them on his desk.

"And I get those because....?" Heero lifted his eyebrows at me.

"Because you are my partner, friend and roommate who will no doubt be sharing a Valentine's dinner of pizza with me on the couch tonight in front of the news. Just trying to show I care."

Heero looked at me for a moment, opened his mouth, closed it again and then smiled faintly. "Do you?"

"Do I what?" I asked cautiously.

"Care?"

Time for the safe answer. "Of course idiot. You're my best friend."

Heero got to his feet, moved around the side of our desks, and pulled my chair away from my desk. I swallowed hard as he placed his hands on the arms of my chair and leaned well into my personal space.

"How about the other kind?"

It took me a minute to find my voice. "Other kind?"

He nodded. "The kind that means we go home, order a pizza, have dinner and then ignore the news."

Oh. That kind. "Is that an offer?"

He nodded again, his lips curving up slightly at the corners. "Very much so."

"Can we go home now?" I asked hopefully.

His smile widened. "It's ten o'clock in the morning."

"Do you really want to wait that long?"

"Good point." He pulled me up and out of the chair, scooped the candy off the desk and ushered me out the door.

"We don't need the candy."

"You'll need it. I'm not calling for pizza this early." He shook his head. "Besides, I have... plans for it."

"Really?" I challenged.

"You'll be thanking Quatre for it when I'm through." His smile was now feral. "I've waited a long time for this...."

He was right. I ended up sending Quatre a very nice thank you note...
