Cat-shifting Pirates Part 3

It wasn't a conscious decision- but from the moment the blond had gasped out what a prize he would be, the fear rose up and seized his throat. He knew- all too well- what the changed did to his kind.

"Run Heero!" his mother, shoving him into the underbrush. "Run- and don't look back!"

And then too, he had seen the look on his Prince's face. A look that had caused icy cold shock to snap his beast's rage. The fear he had caused due to his own cursed blood... no hope of a shelter there. That home he'd found was gone for good.

All because of the beast...

A step made him look up, lock eyes with the pirate that had exposed his secret. "I'm not something to be sold," he said simply, knowing the other wouldn't understand. To the pirate he was simply a valuable prize...

Silver for the blood. Gold for the flesh. The canines worth even more. Don't waste them... be careful with the cuts... we need them to survive for a long while yet... and when they die- the skins are-

He couldn't go through that again. He wouldn't!

The water welcomed him, pulled him down, filled his lungs... the darkness swirled through his vision as he sank... he didn't struggle- until he felt something grab hold of his ankle.

No! He kicked out, straining to sink faster, trying to get away- but he'd already given up his air. He felt the grip on his ankle tighten just as the darkness swarmed over his consciousness.

Please, was his last thought. Please let it be too late...

Warmth surrounded him. Silk under his cheek, beneath his hands. His nose twitched and scent flooded him, turning his veins to fire. He knew this feeling, knew the signs, he'd have to leave court for a few days... wait for his blood to cool...

But right now... right now he was so warm...

Hands slid through his hair, over his back, petting and soothing and unconsciously he arched into the touch. It felt so good...

"Awake at last?" A voice rumbled in his ear.

He tumbled out of the bed, sheets tangled around him, landing in a heap on the floor, eyes widening in surprise. The pirate- the Captain- he reminded himself, leaned over the side of the bed, a smile curving his lips.

"Where are my clothes?" Heero demanded, pulling the sheets around him a little more securely.

"With mine. Drying." The Captain patted the bed beside him. "Come back up here. It's more comfortable than the floor."

"I'd rather not."

The Captain smiled wider. "You weren't complaining a few minutes ago. In fact you seemed to be enjoying it..."

"I wasn't really awake a few minutes ago." Heero countered, a little confused. This wasn't what he'd expected.

"I'm surprised you haven't switched forms yet," the Captain said, his tone mild. "Tried to tear out my throat."

Was that what he was trying to do? Force Heero to change?

"I don't give in to the beast," Heero snapped back. "When I kill you, I'll use my bare hands."

The Captain's eyes widened. "You don't change forms? Why not?"

The cage. Too tight to move. His paws pinned, the collar tight around his throat...

Heero bit his lips. He wasn't going to say anything else. Maybe- he cast a glance towards the door- if he could get out there-

"Well, if you won't talk-" Before Heero could move, the Captain reached down and hauled him back up onto the bed, pinning him neatly. "We'll just have to find something else to do..."
