Here's my contribution for the 2x1 cause since Akuma recruited me. I started out 1x2, then Akuma converted me to 2x1. Now I like any fic that has 1x2x1 in any form, but I tend to write 2x1.
The Surprise Part 4
Hearing the door open Heero groaned.
"I told you Wufei, I changed my mind! You should have seen them!"
Staring wide eyed at the sight of Heero sobbing into his pillow, Duo was struck momentarily silent. Eyes tracing the outline of Heero's body under the blanket he frowned.
"See who?"
Heero stiffened and gulped hard. "Duo?"
"The one and only."
Heero sat up and stared at the braided bishounen standing in front of the door. Duo's eyes were drawn to Heero's stomach.
'Heero looked pregnant.' Duo thought as he stared at his former best friend. 'But Heero was a boy. Boys couldn't get pregnant...... was Heero sick?'
"Heero Daijobu desu ka?"
"Aaa."
"Are you sick is it some kind of growth?"
A funny look crossed Heero's tear stained face as he murmured, "Something like that."
Duo went pale as he rushed to the side of the bed taking Heero's hand in his, he forgot his playful mask as he said worriedly, "Are you dieing Hee-chan? Is that why she left you?"
"Who left me?" Heero replied genuinely confused.
"Relena."
"Relena? I would never be involved with her. Not only would Dorothy kill me but Relena and I have always been and will remain strictly friends. Any way, I'm perfectly fine on my own."
"But you're dieing!"
"Trust me, my... um... condition won't kill me. Sally assures me I just need to take it easy."
"When did you find out?"
"Two months after the war ended." and you left. They both heard the unspoken words.
"Why didn't you tell me? It seems like you told the other guys."
"I thought about it but I didn't want to ruin all your plans for a new life just cause you got drunk and screwed me by accident."
"How dare you!"
"What?"
"Belittle it like that."
"Why should you care? It was a mistake."
"It meant everything to me."
"Sure, that's why you never spoke about that night and left to run home to your girlfriend as soon as you could."
"I took the home Hilde offered me as a friend so I wouldn't have to watch you go to Relena."
"I never would have done that. Relena and I had an understanding we were friends, I ... we shared the same father."
Momentarily stunned, Duo felt all his anger drain away,
"You never told me."
"You're the first person I've told since Relena and I found out. It used to be harder for me to talk. Theses past few months have changed me... You're not with Hilde?"
Taking a deep breath Duo gathered his courage, "I'm not in love with Hilde. I never have been, we're just friends. I have been in love with you since the moment we met. It drove me crazy how you were the only thing I could think of. I wasn't drunk that night. Not unless being drunk with happiness counts. It was so much better then I imagined. Then I found out you were drunk. I shattered, waiting for you to say something, anything. I couldn't live with the silence, sure that it was only a cover for your disgust, but the moment I left, the silence seemed to swallow me whole. Being with you, making love to you was perfect, not just because I was giving you my body, but because I gave you my heart. I loved you enough to let you go and now that I'm here I'll never make that mistake again. Even if you don't love me, I still want your friendship. We'll get through this together."
Heero was watching wide eyed not only from the sheer amount of words that Duo had spoken in one breath but also from the words that echoed in his mind 'I love you'.
"Duo?"
"Eh?"
"Aishiteru."
"What?!!!"
"I wasn't drunk, even if I had been, if anyone but you had been there, I would have broken their arm for touching me. I woke up the next morning where I always wanted to be in your arms. I watched you sleep for two hours." He took a deep breath trying not to fall apart from the remembered pain of what came next. "I had to get up since it was my turn to make everyone breakfast. When I got down there, Wufei was complaining about how unjust it was that he had a mission and couldn't sleep off his hangover like you."
Neither boy knew quite how it happened, but some how they had maneuvered themselves over so Heero was laying on his back and Duo was cuddled up next to him, his body curved protectively against Heero's.
"I knew from the moment Sally told me I would have to tell you. It's funny I was never afraid, but you make me vulnerable. Even now, some small part of me wonders if your just here because of my condition."
"Heero if you're dieing, it wouldn't change how I feel about you. It just made me realize how stupid my fears were and how precious each moment we have together is."
"Duo I'm not dieing."
"Well, having a growth that big can't be healthy!"
"It's not a growth! The name is Kirei."
Duo blinked and looked at him oddly. "You named your tumor?"
"What tumor?"
"Your growth!"
"You mean the baby? It's growing but I don't think being pregnant is the same as having a tumor."
"P... P... P... P...... A Baby?" Duo exclaimed and promptly fainted.
Heero clambered over to his side and was going to get some water to dump on Duo when his partner sat up like a spring, fire in his eyes.
"Yosh! I'm gonna be a dad! I can't believe you took this long to tell me!" Duo looked pumped and excited even his braid seemed to bounce with energy as he stood up and started to pace.
"I can get a job at the Preventers and move back to earth, we can look for a place. I really like the name Kirei Yuy-Maxwell. Did you pick out the nursery stuff? I think we should paint the nursery white with a black ceiling we can have chibi Wings on the walls and Deathscythe flying above..."
With an indulgent grin Heero said, "Come here Duo."
Instantly Duo was back by his side. Taking Duo's hand he gently placed it palm down on his belly watching the wonder in Duo's eyes as he felt the first kick.
"Wow." Came the reverent whisper and he had to blink away the tears. He never considered the possibility he would father a child. Now he would have his own family, Heero said he loved him and life couldn't become more perfect.
"I never imagined I would be grateful to Dr. J for anything Duo. But he made this possible with his crazy experiments." The warmth in his eyes only matched the gentle words from Heero. Pulling Heero into his arms Duo held him gently. Then leaned down to give him a loving kiss.
"Shall we see the others?"
"Sure" Heero mumbled into Duo throat cheeks red in embarrassment.

The room went silent as Duo entered carrying Heero. Heero looked happier then Relena could ever remember seeing him blushing as he told Duo protestingly, "I can walk by myself Duo."
"Uh uh Hee-chan I like holding you too much."
The blush grew brighter, and Hilde gave a slight giggle having been filled in on the details by a concerned Quatre.
"Hey Everybody! I'm gonna be a daddy!" Duo beamed.
